The first trailer for Netflix’s War Machine has dropped, and while the title shares a name with Don Cheadle’s MCU character, this film is a completely different story. It stars Alan Ritchson as a US Army Ranger in training who faces an unexpected adversary.

Check out the trailer:

In the footage, Ritchson’s character, codenamed ’81’, must lead his squad in a seemingly impossible battle against a massive mech of unknown origin. It resembles a modern take on Predator, with the high-tech killer robot stepping in as the main antagonist.

Directed by Patrick Hughes, the film features a cast that includes Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Blake Richardson, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Daniel Webber.

Here’s the official logline from Netflix: “During the final stage of U.S. Army Ranger selection, an elite team’s training exercise turns into a fight for survival against an unimaginable threat.”

Ritchson is recognized for his role as Jack Reacher in the Prime Video series, where he plays a former soldier using his sharp mind and impressive physicality to solve crimes and right wrongs.

While it seems unlikely, Ritchson has been a popular fan choice for the role of Batman in the new DC Universe. However, he may still be in the running for a different, unnamed character in the DCU.
