The upcoming horror sequel Scream 7 is embracing technology in a fresh way, as director Kevin Williamson and star Neve Campbell host a unique TikTok livestream.
On February 10, fans had the opportunity to watch the original Scream movie for free on TikTok Live through the official Scream account. During the livestream, director Williamson and stars Campbell and Isabel May watched the film alongside fans, sharing reactions and behind-the-scenes stories, particularly from Neve, who reflected on her experiences during the making of the 1996 classic.
This innovative marketing approach is a first for the franchise, as while livestreams of shows are common, it’s rare to see a full movie screened with interactive commentary from the cast. The event was a hit, attracting 1.2 million viewers at its peak, as shown in a screenshot shared later on social media.
Fans expressed their enthusiasm, with one commenting, “This marketing is phenomenal,” while another noted, “The chemistry between Neve & Isabel during the Scream TikTok live segments is so adorable… Neve talking to her about 1996 behind the scenes is everything. UGH I’m emotional.” The live chat feature allowed fans to engage with each other about a franchise they cherish.
This isn’t the first time Scream 7 has utilized modern technology for promotion. While opinions vary among film fans, the horror movie has teamed up with Meta to let fans insert themselves into scenes from the franchise using AI.
All of this is in anticipation of Scream 7, where Campbell’s iconic character, Sidney Prescott, faces Ghostface once more, this time with her daughter in danger. The film also brings back Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown, with Matthew Lillard and David Arquette making appearances despite their characters’ apparent deaths in earlier installments.
Scream 7 is set to hit theaters on February 27. For more, stay tuned for updates on the best slasher films and upcoming horror releases.
