New Avengers: Doomsday merchandise hints at our first glimpse of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
We still haven’t seen an official look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, aside from a brief glimpse of his mask in hand beneath his green cloak in *Fantastic Four*. However, a recent video showcasing some *Avengers: Doomsday* merchandise from Pinewood Studios, where the film is currently being made, gives us our first real peek at Doom in the MCU.
The video features a shot of the merchandise, including a variety of comedy-themed Doom shirts that highlight different interpretations of his comic book appearance.
It’s interesting to note that the image of Doom on the shirt, which includes many of the film’s extensive cast, shows some inconsistencies. The designs on his chest piece and epaulettes don’t appear to be uniform, possibly due to the video’s low resolution. This raises questions about whether the shirt features an AI-generated image, but that’s purely speculative.
Downey has hinted at a comics-accurate look for Doom, while also stirring up speculation about a potential link between his Doctor Doom and Tony Stark/Iron Man, a role he played from 2008’s *Iron Man* to 2019’s *Avengers: Endgame*, where Stark sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos.
In the comics, Iron Man and Doctor Doom have had numerous encounters, both as adversaries and as reluctant allies against greater threats, even teaming up for time-traveling adventures back to the era of King Arthur and Camelot. How this relationship will unfold in the MCU remains to be seen.
*Avengers: Doomsday* is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Stay tuned for updates on all the upcoming Marvel movies and shows currently in development.
