New Cult Horror Reboot Unleashes Gruesome Deaths, Competing with Final Destination and The Monkey

The long-awaited reboot of the controversial cult horror classic Faces of Death has finally dropped its first trailer, and it’s as grim as you’d expect.

Clocking in at just 55 seconds, the teaser packs in a series of shocking scenes, including a bear attack, a beheading, and a train collision. As the visuals unfold, the black-and-white clips cleverly align to form a skull. Viewer discretion is advised—this one is genuinely unsettling!

Inspired by John Alan Schwartz’s infamous 1978 film, which faced bans in 46 countries and holds a mere 25% on Rotten Tomatoes, the reboot follows a video site moderator tasked with filtering out violent and offensive content while grappling with her own trauma. In a compelling twist, she encounters a group seemingly recreating the snuff films from the original Faces of Death. With the internet rife with AI and misinformation, it raises the question: are these tributes or something far more sinister?

Faces of Death is making its return. The first teaser is out now, with a theatrical release set for April 10.

While the teaser doesn’t showcase them, Dacre Montgomery from Stranger Things and Barbie Ferreira from Euphoria are set to star, joined by a supporting cast that includes Sarah Voigt (Terrifier 2), Tadasay Young (Five Nights at Freddy’s), Josie Totah (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Aaron Holliday (Cocaine Bear), Jermaine Fowler (The Blackening), and Charli XCX.

Director Daniel Goldhaber, known for Cam, along with co-writer Ira Mazzei, shared their excitement: “Faces of Death was one of the first viral video tapes, and we are so lucky to be able to use it as a jumping-off point for this exploration of cycles of violence and the way they perpetuate themselves online.” The original film focused on pathologist Francis B. Gröss, who sought to understand the boundary between life and death through gruesome footage of various deaths.

Faces of Death hits US theaters on April 10, six years after filming wrapped.
