New Game from Ex-Capcom Developer Blends Devil May Cry and Persona Elements

GPTRACK50, an indie studio led by former Capcom developer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, has revealed the release date for its upcoming action RPG, Stupid Never Dies, set to launch in October.

To mark the occasion, meet Phoenix Zaza Hotfeathers, a mysterious character featured in the latest Stupid Never Dies trailer. With a look reminiscent of a background dancer from a popular music video, it’s unclear whether he’s an ally, adversary, or something else entirely. What we do know is that his fashion sense is on point, sporting fiery wings that could rival Johnny Gat from Saints Row. We love a character with moral ambiguity, especially one that can take to the skies.

The story follows Davy, a shy and introverted zombie on a mission to revive Julia, a frozen human girl. In a world dominated by monsters, Davy finds himself at the bottom of the social ladder, but perhaps love can truly conquer all.

Throughout his journey, Davy will customize his undead form with quirky upgrades and absorb abilities from various foes, including demons, vampires, werewolves, and ghosts. Every bite brings him closer to bringing Julia back to life.

Players can enjoy Davy’s wild adventures regardless of the edition they choose, but those looking for extra features, including enhanced background music and visuals, will want to grab the first DLC, TickTock Teddies: Nonsense Overload. Plus, fans can get a head start on the game’s soundtrack, which will be available for streaming on major platforms like Spotify and Apple Music starting August 4.

Additionally, the studio has announced a co-publishing agreement with Sega, enhancing their collaboration for this project.

“We are thrilled and thankful to Sega for their support as we launch the first of many titles from GPTRACK50,” said Hiroyuki Kobayashi, president of the studio. “Stupid Never Dies is an ambitious action game featuring innovative gameplay systems, and partnering with a publisher as seasoned as Sega has been crucial. Our team is dedicated to delivering a game that we believe players worldwide will love.”

Stupid Never Dies is set to release on October 21 for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC, following its initial announcement at last year’s awards ceremony.
