New God of War Game in Development Featuring Kratos and Direct Connection to Laufey

Santa Monica Studio has made it clear that Kratos isn’t being sidelined for good, even with Faye, his late wife, getting her own spotlight in God of War: Laufey. If there was any doubt, the studio has confirmed that a new God of War game is in the works, and the iconic, grumpy god of war will once again take center stage as the main playable character.

During the God of War: Laufey panel at San Diego Comic Con, Cory Barlog, the studio’s head of creative, reiterated that Kratos will lead the next installment. If you were considering skipping Laufey, you might want to think again, as it will directly connect to the events of Faye’s game.

Barlog mentioned at #SDCC that the next Kratos-focused God of War title will follow Laufey and will be intertwined with her storyline.

While it’s not shocking news—given that Kratos was already confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday—this should help ease the concerns of fans upset about a God of War game where Kratos isn’t the main character. However, it seems we’ll have to wait a while for this next adventure, as Laufey still lacks a release date. There’s also talk of a God of War trilogy remake potentially happening in the meantime.

Although Kratos isn’t playable in Laufey, he has made brief appearances in the gameplay trailer released earlier this year. His role in the game is still unclear, but considering Faye’s mission is to aid him and Atreus on their journey from the afterlife, it’s likely he’ll show up a few more times throughout the story.
