New Images Reveal Microsoft’s Upcoming Xbox Cloud Gaming Controller

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Microsoft was developing a new Xbox controller featuring Wi-Fi capabilities for direct connection to Xbox Cloud Gaming servers. Recent leaks from Brazil’s Anatel regulator have provided a glimpse of this controller through new images.

The leaked images showcase a compact Xbox controller that bears a resemblance to third-party models from brands like 8BitDo and HyperX. This controller, crafted by Microsoft, boasts both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 5.3, and a USB-C port. Additionally, there appears to be a pairing button located at the top, along with a D-Pad, bumpers, and triggers.

The photos reveal both white and black variants, and it seems this new controller will feature a built-in rechargeable 500mAh battery. Unlike Microsoft’s current Xbox controllers, which primarily rely on AA batteries or removable rechargeable packs (excluding the Elite series), this model aims to enhance user convenience.

Initially, a new Xbox controller was slated for release in 2024, alongside a now-canceled refresh of the Xbox Series X. However, this Xbox Cloud Gaming controller is distinct and is designed to support Microsoft’s growing cloud gaming initiatives with Game Pass. By connecting directly to Xbox Cloud Gaming servers, it aims to minimize latency, similar to the functionality of Google’s Stadia controllers. Additionally, Microsoft is reportedly testing free ad-supported access to cloud games and is rumored to be gearing up for the launch of the Xbox Elite Controller Series 3 later this year.
