New Insight into GTA 6’s Hidden Multiplayer Features Surfaces Accidentally

New insights about the multiplayer aspect of Grand Theft Auto 6 have emerged from the ongoing legal battle surrounding Rockstar Games’ termination of over two dozen employees, despite the company’s attempts to keep this information under wraps.

As Rockstar gradually reveals more about Grand Theft Auto 6, set to launch this November, details about its multiplayer mode remain scarce. Given the massive popularity of GTA Online, it’s expected that GTA 6 will feature a similar, if not larger, online component. However, specifics about its functionality and release timeline—especially since GTA Online debuted shortly after GTA V—are still unclear. One confirmed detail is that GTA 6’s online mode will accommodate at least 32 players.

This information surfaced during the court proceedings related to the firings, which the company claims were due to employees leaking confidential information on a Discord server. The affected developers, along with the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain, argue that the terminations were an attempt to undermine union activities. Recently, a UK employment tribunal ruled that Rockstar is not obligated to provide back pay to the dismissed employees during the case. However, during the hearing, Rockstar was compelled to disclose some messages from the developers, which included the detail about the online mode that the company’s legal representative hesitated to read aloud due to its sensitive nature.

In one Discord message from October, a former employee noted that Rockstar preferred to limit time off to fewer than five people at a time, as it complicated the organization of playtest sessions for the 32-player online mode. Another developer responded, questioning why it would be challenging to manage a 32-player session with multiple QA studios available.

While this detail may not seem groundbreaking, it aligns with the current capabilities of GTA Online, which supports 32 players (30 active players and 2 spectators). It’s still uncertain whether GTA 6’s online mode will maintain this player count at launch or if other modes, such as a potential free roam, might allow for different player limits. Nonetheless, this tidbit about the multiplayer mode, which Rockstar seemed eager to keep confidential, highlights the ongoing intrigue surrounding the game.
