New leaks unveil major Doomsday storyline for Avengers: Endgame Encore.
Six years after its initial release, one of the pivotal films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame, is making a comeback in theaters with an extended cut titled Avengers: Endgame Encore, which adds four extra minutes to the original runtime. While Encore is set to officially premiere on September 25, some early screenings are already taking place in select locations, so fans eager to catch it in theaters should be cautious about potential spoilers.
This piece contains spoilers for the new scenes in Avengers: Endgame Encore.
As of September 23, various accounts have begun sharing the additional scenes from Avengers: Endgame Encore, following unauthorized recordings by some attendees during screenings. This new footage serves as a lead-in to the MCU’s upcoming blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release on December 18. If you’re planning to see Encore, it might be best to stop reading now, as the scenes have been fully leaked.
Reports indicate that there are three brand-new scenes in the film, which set the stage for the major multiversal crisis central to Avengers: Doomsday.
The original ending featuring Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) dancing has been modified. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) now appears at the door, likely hinting at Captain America’s return in Doomsday—not as an elderly man, but in his prime, since Loki is now the “keeper of time” and allied with the Time Variance Authority.
Speaking of the TVA, it makes an appearance during the mid-credits of Encore, showcasing a new scene in its main control hub. Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) arrives expecting a typical workday, only to find that countless universes are facing destruction due to Incursion events, where two universes collide.
Lastly, a post-credit scene catches up with Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) following the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Banner finds himself imprisoned in an underground facility, hoping to contain his alter ego, the Hulk, while he continues his gamma energy experiments. However, an unexpected visitor arrives: Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). Although Doom doesn’t appear on-screen, he delivers a line that is somewhat muffled in the leaks, prompting various fan theories. What’s clear is that Banner vanishes, leaving behind the symbol of Latveria etched into the floor of his cell.
The most significant takeaway is that Hulk may be making an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, which is exciting news for fans of the original Avengers team. However, Doom might have other intentions for Banner, leaving the situation uncertain. We also gain some insight into the mechanics of the Incursions, which seem to mirror the Marvel Comics storyline that inspired Doomsday, “Time Runs Out”: one of the colliding universes can attempt to destroy the other to prevent mutual destruction. If they fail, both universes face doom. Additionally, it appears Loki has enlisted Steve Rogers, likely to assist in thwarting the Incursions or whatever plan Doom has in store.
Overall, while the new information may not be groundbreaking, the added scenes effectively set the stage for the upcoming Avengers film and strengthen the connection to Endgame.
Avengers: Endgame Encore will officially release on September 25, with Avengers: Doomsday hitting theaters on December 18.
