Star Wars just included a heartfelt tribute to Carl Weathers in the new Mandalorian and Grogu trailer, leaving fans emotional.

A keen-eyed fan took to social media after the new promo dropped, translating a sign in the fictional Aurebesh alphabet that appears briefly in the footage. “It says ‘WEATHERS APOLLO’… CARL TRIBUTE…” they tweeted, accompanied by three crying emojis. “I JUST FELL TO MY KNEES.”

“Oh that’s heartbreakingly touching,” one user replied, while another chimed in: “IM GONNA CRY AGAIN.”

Weathers was the surname of the late actor who portrayed Greef Karga, who passed away in February 2024. Apollo likely refers to his iconic role as boxer Apollo Creed in the Rocky series. Karga, introduced in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, was a former leader of the Bounty Hunters’ Guild and the catalyst for Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin taking on the mission to protect The Child, having offered him the “lucrative job” that set their journey in motion.

Weathers also directed episodes ‘Chapter 12: The Siege’, which featured Karga’s only appearance in the second season, and ‘Chapter 20: The Foundling’.

Directed by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian and Grogu will see the New Republic seeking the assistance of Din Djarin and Grogu following the collapse of the Galactic Empire. The supporting cast includes Jeremy Allen White, Steve Blum, and Sigourney Weaver.

It hits theaters on May 22. While we wait, explore our guide to all the upcoming Star Wars movies and shows for more on a galaxy far, far away.
