New Playtest Hints at PlayStation’s Fairgames, Offering a Fresh Glimpse of the Long-Awaited Shooter

The first glimpse of gameplay for PlayStation’s live-service shooter, Fairgames, has surfaced online through a playtest site. This marks our first real look at the multiplayer heist game since its announcement over three years ago.

On September 10, a user on a gaming subreddit revealed they had received an invitation to a playtest for a game that closely resembles Fairgames. They shared a link to a playtest for something codenamed “Project Espresso.” A video featured on the site appeared to showcase Fairgames, and the game’s description on Player.gg aligns closely with Sony’s previously announced co-op live-service shooter focused on heists and loot.

“Project Espresso is a third-person PVPVE competitive action game where teams compete to infiltrate high-security locations, steal valuable cargo, and escape before their opponents.”

It seems the video has since been removed from the playtest page. However, before it was taken down, it was viewed by others, including a source that confirmed it matched a video shared by a user on Twitter.

Currently, it remains unverified whether this playtest and the footage are indeed for Fairgames, but all signs point to Project Espresso being the live-service shooter we first glimpsed in 2023 and have not seen since. Inquiries have been made regarding the footage and the playtest.

In 2025, about two years after its initial reveal, reports indicated that the game faced internal delays due to negative feedback from earlier playtests. This period also coincided with Jade Raymond’s departure from Haven Studios, the team behind Fairgames. She founded the studio in 2021 and served as its CEO until her exit in 2025.

The future of Fairgames remains uncertain, but this new playtest suggests that, unlike some other projects, Sony appears to have more faith in Fairgames and is committed to its development. This comes despite PlayStation’s mixed history with live-service games and previous cancellations, including a reported reboot of Horizon Hunters Gathering following disappointing playtests earlier this year.
