New Pokémon Winds and Waves Leaks Reveal Exciting Details Amid Game Freak’s Quiet Period
It’s been pretty quiet since Game Freak first teased Pokémon Winds and Waves, and with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time set to drop this fall, it seems we might be in for a longer wait for updates. Game Freak didn’t share any news about the monster-collecting RPG during the franchise’s major annual event, and there was no mention of 10th generation content in the 30th Anniversary announcements. However, recent leaks could be revealing more about the game than a second official trailer ever could.
The latest batch of leaks comes from a Pokémon influencer who claims the info stems from Game Freak’s significant “Terraleak” data breach in 2024. This leak reportedly outlined plans for a decade’s worth of Pokémon titles, including Winds and Waves before its official announcement, as well as a rumored Pokémon MMO. Since then, a steady stream of Winds and Waves information has surfaced online throughout 2026.
This new wave of leaks includes a mix of character models, terrain footage, and potential full-game maps. For instance, there’s an image of what appears to be the unnamed Elite Four champion from Winds and Waves. Interestingly, this character has multiple 3D models, with one showing him as a young man and two others depicting him at different life stages. Fans are speculating that time travel or a time skip might play a role in the game.
Other leaked content showcases what seems to be the full map of Winds and Waves. With a variety of islands and subregions, this next generation of Pokémon looks to be quite expansive. The influencer claims that the three-minute trailer for Winds and Waves was filmed entirely on a single landmass, which features 11 distinct locations, including a jungle and a research facility. The image also highlights where players will receive their starter Pokémon and the first grass-type gym they can challenge, along with a character model for the leader of the fighting-type gym.
Despite its vastness, leakers caution that there are additional regions not fully represented on the map. Insiders also note that all the recent Winds and Waves media dates back to around 2023 or 2024, when Game Freak was still developing it as a Switch 1 title. As a result, the images may appear rougher than the final game will look. Given their age, some elements from the leaks might not even make it into the finished product.
Previously, leaks hinted at a potential new battle system, details about the Pokémon professor, new evolutions, and an unannounced new type of monster. While the low-quality images aren’t the best way to get insights into one of the most anticipated Switch 2 games in development, until Game Freak drops another trailer or update, these leaks are likely to keep even the most dedicated fans intrigued.
A small detail in Pokémon Pokopia actually reflects some deep development lore.
