New Trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero Hints at an Emerging Monstrous Threat
Less than a day after the New York Comic Con panel, a new trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero dropped. Similar to the first, it hints that Godzilla isn’t the only monstrous challenge humanity will face in this eagerly awaited sequel.
The trailer kicks off with a doctor stating that Noriko had “no business surviving” the events of Godzilla Minus One, before cutting to Koichi navigating a supernatural storm that lifts entire houses into the sky. We then see a montage of people fleeing in fear or discussing the looming danger, culminating in a massive atomic breath attack from Godzilla.
However, it appears Godzilla won’t be the sole threat in this film. The trailer hints at “a new threat,” and while it doesn’t reveal another creature outright, there are indications of one. Godzilla’s attacks have a blue hue in both Godzilla Minus One and this trailer, but we also catch glimpses of beams striking civilians and obliterating a bomb that appear more yellow or lightning-like.
If you want to steer clear of spoilers for Godzilla Minus Zero before its theatrical release, now’s the time to stop reading!
As confirmed by reviews and comments from the filmmakers at New York Comic Con, Gidorah plays a significant role in Godzilla Minus Zero. Since its debut in 1964, this three-headed monster has become one of the most iconic figures in the Godzilla franchise, frequently clashing with Godzilla across various films.
The last time we saw Gidorah was in 2019’s American-made Godzilla: King of the Monsters, so it will be fascinating to see how a Japanese director like Takashi Yamazaki reimagines the character within the post-World War II context of his series. I absolutely loved the first film, making this a compelling reason for me to catch the sequel in IMAX.
Godzilla Minus Zero is set to hit theaters on November 6.
Children of Men also inspired one particular scene.
