New Trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero Unveils a Startling Strategy to Eliminate the Kaiju
Godzilla is back, and the residents of post-World War II Tokyo are not thrilled about it in *Godzilla Minus Zero*, set to release later this year. This sequel to the Oscar-winning *Godzilla Minus One* continues the saga of the survivors from the first film, focusing on the Shikishima family as they face a new menace.
Recently, a new trailer dropped, revealing more about Takashi Yamazaki’s upcoming film. The brief glimpse suggests that, with Godzilla’s return, disaster-response teams are contemplating drastic measures to drive the King of All Monsters away from Japan, including the potential use of thermonuclear weapons. One character warns, “Another moral boundary mankind should not cross,” hinting at the ethical dilemmas involved. Following a tense scene involving a bomb drop, an enraged Godzilla seems to agree with the gravity of the situation.
Joining the cast this time is Min Tanaka, known for *Perfect Days* and *47 Ronin*, who will play Kanji Murakami, a biologist haunted by the scars of war. He’ll be alongside returning actors Ryunosuke Kamiki as Koichi Shikishima, Minami Hamabe as Noriko Shikishima, and Hidetaka Yoshioka as Kenji Noda, who now leads Tokyo’s Disaster Response Bureau after fighting alongside Koichi in the previous film. Other familiar faces include Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Sakura Ando, and Mio Tanaka.
Here’s the official synopsis of the film:
War reduced Japan to zero, and Godzilla plunged it into minus. Two years have passed since then, and the country has faced agonizing struggles to achieve recovery and finally reclaim its daily life.
Just as humanity managed to cling to a hard-won peace, a new threat strikes, crushing hope in an instant.
There is no third time. Everything ends here.
The first teaser trailer, released in April, showcased a larger, more intimidating Godzilla making his way from Japan to New York City. In the final shot, he looms near the Statue of Liberty, marking his return to the city that never sleeps — his first since 1998’s *Godzilla*. It’s safe to say the kaiju won’t be greeted with enthusiasm.
Once again, Godzilla’s fury is poised to wreak havoc on the city that never sleeps.
*Godzilla Minus Zero* sees the return of Oscar-winning director, screenwriter, and visual effects lead Takashi Yamazaki. The film is set to premiere on November 3 in Japan and November 6 in North America. Notably, it is the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX using high-definition digital cameras certified by IMAX.
