New Trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway 2 Reveals Netflix Premiere Date

The Gundam community won’t have to wait too long to catch the latest film from the sci-fi anime series at home. *Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe* is set to hit Netflix later this month. The film premiered in Japanese theaters back in January and made its way to American cinemas in May. Netflix shared the streaming date along with a fresh trailer on Tuesday.

The *Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway* films draw inspiration from *Hathaway’s Flash*, a trilogy of light novels penned by series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino between 1989 and 1990. These stories unfold within the Universal Century (UC) timeline, the primary continuity established by the original 1979 anime. Specifically, the *Hathaway* novels take place in UC 0105, 26 years after the events of *Mobile Suit Gundam*.

Sunrise is transforming the three novels into a trilogy of films. The first installment, *Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway*, debuted in June 2021 and is currently available for streaming on Netflix. The initial two films have been well-received, with many fans considering them an excellent entry point into the franchise. Hopefully, it won’t be another five years before the final film in the trilogy is released.

*Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe* is directed by Shukou Murase, who also directed the previous film. Yasuyuki Muto returned to pen the screenplay, while the iconic Shinichirou Watanabe took charge of the storyboards. The theme song is performed by SZA, and as always, Sunrise handled the animation. The film will be available on Netflix starting August 31.

While Sunrise hasn’t announced a release window for the concluding film in the Hathaway trilogy, Gundam enthusiasts have plenty of other exciting projects to anticipate. Just last month, *Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO* was unveiled, introducing a new anime set in an alternate post-apocalyptic world where Mobile Suit pilots face off against an alien threat. The upcoming video game *Mobile Suit Rogue Orbit* will share the same universe and promises to deliver slick action reminiscent of *Armored Core*. Both are slated for a 2027 release.

Additional projects on the horizon include *Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Zero*, a prequel to the film *Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom*, and a somewhat controversial live-action Gundam movie currently in development. With all this in the works, it’s no wonder that Gundam Day has recently been recognized as a holiday in Japan; the series continues to enjoy immense popularity.
