New Trailer Reveals Revamped Combat in Persona 4 Revival

Atlus is set to revitalize Persona 4 with the upcoming remake of this nearly two-decade-old RPG. The latest trailer for Persona 4 Revival reveals some exciting changes aimed at enhancing the experience, particularly in the combat system.

The new features trailer highlights five additions to Persona 4 Revival that weren’t present in the original or even the updated Golden version. Three of these enhancements focus on the revamped combat mechanics. One notable addition is the Baton Pass feature, allowing players to transfer their turn to a party member after triggering a “One More.” This mechanic, first seen in Persona 5, has become a staple of the series, adding speed and strategic depth to turn-based battles. Similarly, the upcoming Persona 3 Reload has incorporated this feature into its combat, albeit under the name Shift.

In addition to Baton Pass, Persona 4 Revival introduces the Send Flying mechanic. When a player lands a normal attack on an enemy afflicted with a status ailment, that enemy is knocked back, dealing damage and spreading the ailment to any other enemies it collides with. Another intriguing new combat feature is Prime Time. As battles progress, a meter fills up, which can be activated to enter Prime Time mode. In this mode, players can unleash a series of consecutive attacks without skill costs, ignore enemy resistance, and utilize Baton Pass. The mode culminates in a “Series Finale” finisher that inflicts significant damage. This mechanic appears to be an evolution of the All-Out attack from previous titles, enhanced with additional features. The meter system is particularly unique, and it will be interesting to see how players can fill it during combat.

The trailer also emphasizes two audio-related features. Social Links will now be fully voiced, and there are hints at newly added events that may surprise fans. Additionally, the game will feature a new score composed by Ryota Kozuka, with some tracks receiving remixes. Vocalist Shiori Sasaki will lend her voice to the soundtrack. Atlus has made it clear that they are willing to make bold changes in the remake, including adjustments to some controversial characters.

Persona 4 Revival is set to launch on February 18, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
