New Unofficial Ciri Quest in The Witcher 3 Connects to The Witcher 4
As speculation continues about a potential new DLC for The Witcher 3, modders have jumped ahead with a fan-created Ciri story quest. This new adventure is set in the same region as the upcoming Witcher 4: the rugged kingdom of Kovir and Poviss. As one user on a modding platform aptly noted, “We got The Witcher 4 before The Witcher 4.”
While fans eagerly await updates on the next open-world RPG from CD Projekt Red, modder Alexander Fandera-Maslov has completed an unofficial tie-in project titled Dawn over Kovir. This mod, inspired by the Cinematic Reveal Trailer for Witcher 4, allows players to step into the role of Geralt’s surrogate daughter as she embarks on her own monster-hunting escapades.
Fandera estimates that players can expect to spend “between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours” completing this new custom quest set in the mountainous Northern kingdom filled with mines. While Dawn over Kovir lacks English voice acting, it does offer English subtitles. Fandera has mentioned that a forthcoming 1.0 update will enhance animations and gameplay elements, as well as introduce voice acting—hopefully without relying on generative AI.
This mod could serve as a great way for fans to pass the time until CD Projekt Red unveils new content in the Witcher universe. Analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski expressed confidence that significant new content will be released this year, potentially bridging the narrative gap between the last game and Witcher 4.
However, it seems that the next installment may still be a year or two away. In the meantime, CD Projekt Red is also working on bringing mods to the console versions of The Witcher 3. Even if the rumored DLC doesn’t materialize, players will soon have the chance to experience Dawn over Kovir on console.
