New Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Footage Showcases an Iconic Moment from the Classic Game

We’ve got some exciting new insights about the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, thanks to a fresh wave of previews and trailers leading up to its November 5 launch on Switch 2. One of the standout moments from the original game was sneakily revealed in a brief teaser on the Nintendo Japan website, showcasing Dark Link. I can’t wait to face off against this iconic foe using the revamped combat system.

In just a fleeting glimpse, the teaser presents a quick sequence where Dark Link leaps onto Link’s sword during the Water Temple mini-boss encounter.

Dark Link, distinct from Shadow Link, is a highlight in an already fantastic Zelda experience. This encounter takes place in one of the game’s more intricate dungeons, designed to deliver a cinematic yet fully interactive moment. Players navigate through a mysterious, fog-laden room filled with shallow puddles, featuring a tree at its center.

Upon reaching the far side, they find the exit barred by metal gates. Turning back, they’re confronted by a shadowy figure standing by the tree. As players approach, they realize it’s a mirror image of Link, who launches an immediate attack. If you’re not well-practiced in your swordplay, this encounter can be quite challenging. A few reckless swings, and he might even leap onto your sword. Alternatively, you could always use Deku Nuts to stun him.

In the Switch 2 remake, Dark Link boasts more distinctive features, including a Hylian shield adorned with the full crest. While we haven’t seen the complete redesign of this mini-boss, it seems likely to align with the Dark Link appearances from recent Smash Bros. titles. I’m eager to see if this new version can capture the same magic as the N64 classic. The original’s subtlety and clever gameplay twists set a high bar, and the remake may need to adopt a different strategy.

However, I’m confident that the combat in the Switch 2 version will shine. With the streamlined movement and targeting mechanics, I’m hopeful that the battle will evoke the intense, 2D mirror duels reminiscent of the Iron Knuckles from Zelda II.
