Nia DaCosta Expresses Strong Interest in Directing a Live-Action Invincible Adaptation

Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels may have faced some harsh criticism from MCU fans, but that hasn’t deterred her from exploring more superhero projects in the future.

Ahead of her horror sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, DaCosta participated in a Q&A on a Reddit channel and was asked by a fan which franchise she’d be interested in directing next. To many people’s surprise, she expressed a strong desire to helm a live-action adaptation of Prime Video’s Invincible.

“The comic and cartoon are fantastic,” DaCosta shared. “I have a clear vision for how to bring that world and the incredible father-son dynamic to life on screen. I’m also drawn to the idea of creating something in the superhero genre that has real grit, intensity, and even some adult themes!”

Invincible, created by Robert Kirkman of The Walking Dead fame, follows 17-year-old Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun) as he learns the ropes of being a superhero from the most powerful hero on Earth, his father, Omni-Man (voiced by J.K. Simmons). However, Mark soon discovers that balancing a personal life with saving the world is far more challenging than it seems. The series has released three seasons so far, with a fourth season set to debut in March 2026.

Rumors about a live-action film adaptation have been floating around since 2017, when Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg announced their plans to bring it to life. In the meantime, Yeun was asked if he’d be interested in portraying Mark in a live-action format, to which he humorously replied, “Well, I am 40.”

When it was suggested he could take on the role of Grayson’s father instead, he responded, “Yeah, we’ll see. I love working with Robert. That comic is so great, and it has such depth. I’m excited to see how it all unfolds. Right now, we’re having a blast making this show. As for live action – who knows?”
