While The Night Agent season 4 hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, the writers’ room is already in action, and the showrunner has indicated that an annual production schedule is feasible.

“Season 4 isn’t officially greenlit yet, but a while back, in 2025, they quietly opened a writers’ room,” showrunner Shawn Ryan shared. “We’ve been developing the storyline for some time. We have scripts in progress and are breaking new stories. Given the tax credit, there’s a deadline for filming; we have time right now.”

Season 1 premiered in March 2023, with season 2 set to follow in January 2025. Season 3 is scheduled for release on February 19.

“To Netflix’s credit, they want to ensure the creative aspects are solid before committing significant funds,” Ryan explained. “We’re currently in the story development and script-writing phase, and I anticipate that in the next few weeks to a month, they’ll decide on officially greenlighting season 4. If they do, we’ll be ready with the scripts to minimize the gap between seasons 3 and 4. Netflix values its audience and aims to reduce the wait time between seasons of their most popular shows.”

The Night Agent season 3 is launching just over a year after season 2, a rarity in today’s television landscape: for instance, Stranger Things season 5 took three years to arrive after season 4. This issue isn’t exclusive to streaming platforms, as House of the Dragon season 3 is set to release two years after season 2. If the green light for season 4 comes soon, The Night Agent could maintain its momentum.

“This release schedule is manageable,” Ryan noted regarding The Night Agent’s quicker turnaround. “Compared to the network shows I worked on in the past, where you’d finish 22 episodes and immediately start the next season’s writers’ room before even completing post-production on the final episode. During my time on The Shield and The Unit, I produced around 44 episodes in a single year. This is a walk in the park by comparison.”
