Nintendo adjusts the release date for The Legend of Zelda movie once more.

The live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda has a new release date. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Zelda series, announced that the film will now premiere on April 30, 2027, moving it up a week from its previous date.

Miyamoto shared, “I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7. The team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible. There’s less than a year to go until release, so thank you for waiting.”

This marks the second change in release dates for the Zelda film, which was initially set for March 27, 2027, before being delayed by six weeks earlier this year.

Nintendo’s pattern of adjusting release dates continues, as seen with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which also experienced delays, followed by an earlier release for its sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. It seems Nintendo enjoys keeping fans and theaters guessing.

The Zelda movie was first announced in 2023, with Nintendo collaborating with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Miyamoto and Hollywood veteran Avi Arad are producing the project, with Miyamoto noting that he has been working on the film for “many years now.”

Wes Ball, known for directing the Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is at the helm of this live-action adaptation. He expressed a desire for his version of The Legend of Zelda to feel more “grounded” and “real,” steering away from heavy reliance on motion-captured graphics.

The cast includes Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Bragason is recognized for her role in the Disney Plus series Renegade Nella, while Ainsworth has appeared in Mike Flanagan’s Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor and voiced Pinocchio in the live-action remake by Robert Zemeckis. He also portrayed Alex Burgess in The Sandman episode “Sleep of the Just.”

In addition to the film, there are rumors of a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in development for the Nintendo Switch 2, expected to launch in 2026. Nintendo is also working on another animated feature with Illumination, set to release in 2028. Their latest collaboration, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, is currently in theaters and has already grossed over $940 million worldwide.
