Nintendo Confirms Censorship of Inappropriate Content for Switch 2
Dispatch has launched on Switch 1 and 2 as of January 28, but it comes with some notable changes. While the original version allowed players to toggle explicit content on or off, the Nintendo release will have certain content censored by default, with no option to revert it. This includes scenes featuring the supervillain Toxic’s full appendage.
“Different platforms have different content criteria, and submissions are evaluated individually,” the developer stated. “We collaborated with Nintendo to ensure the content met their guidelines for release, but the core narrative and gameplay experience remains the same as the original.”
Dispatch is a four-episode interactive game that follows reformed villains as they deal with their emotional baggage while working in a superhero call center. This workplace comedy, created by former Telltale developers, features adult themes, including the aforementioned Toxic scene, romantic moments, and explicit gestures. Some fans have even expressed a desire for the game to be even more risqué.
One humorous moment involves a character’s areola being briefly exposed while she tries on a new costume, poking fun at the genre’s often ridiculous outfits. It’s likely that this gag is also absent from the Switch version. Reports indicate that a late-game sex scene has been completely removed. However, the game’s profanity remains intact, so players can still enjoy the characters’ colorful language.
The specifics of Nintendo’s content guidelines remain somewhat ambiguous. The changes in Dispatch are particularly puzzling, considering the Switch eShop is not entirely averse to suggestive content, with various titles pushing boundaries. It seems that some games rated ESRB 17+ just have different standards.
