“Nintendo Fans Celebrate Smash Bros. Creator for Surprise Final Update to Kirby Air Riders”
Kirby Air Riders has just received a significant update, bringing exciting new features to the game after the possibility of one last patch was hinted at.
Last year, Masahiro Sakurai mentioned that the Kirby Air Riders team would soon wrap up their work, suggesting that version 1.2.0 might be the final version. However, he also teased, “I think we might be able to tweak it one more time,” and true to his word, the game has now been updated to version 1.3.0. He encouraged players to “please enjoy the balance of the game as a definitive version,” and it seems that this latest patch is indeed something players can appreciate.
The details of the version 1.3.0 update were shared on the Nintendo website, revealing a brand-new game mode called Grand Prix for Air Rider. However, in a puzzling move, this mode is only accessible through the game’s online Paddock lobbies. While you can play with CPU opponents, the absence of offline access is quite strange. On a brighter note, the update allows two players to join online matches from the same Switch 2, enabling split-screen City Trial gameplay.
Additionally, GameShare has been introduced to Kirby Air Riders, allowing local play with friends or via GameChat, and even Switch 1 owners can join in on the fun. The update also includes a variety of character adjustments and bug fixes.
Sakurai’s wish for players to enjoy the game’s balance seems to have been fulfilled, as feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. One Reddit user expressed excitement, saying, “Oh shit Grand Prix and two player online with one console is a game changer for me.” Meanwhile, on Twitter, user @corybuckley remarked, “Casually dropping gameshare and a new mode is wild,” while @unfunnymeat noted, “Sakurai got us. He said ‘no DLC’ but he never said ‘no updates that add a whole bunch of stuff that could be compared to DLC.'”
