Nintendo Switch 2 Update Introduces VRR Support for TV Mode

Nintendo had initially promised that the Switch 2 would feature variable refresh rate (VRR) support while docked, but the console launched without this important capability. However, the recent 23.0.0 firmware update has introduced VRR support for the Switch 2 when it’s docked and in TV mode.

VRR synchronizes a display’s refresh rate with a game’s frame rate, enhancing gameplay smoothness and minimizing screen tearing. This feature will be especially beneficial for titles on the Switch 2 that experience frame rate fluctuations, aligning it with capabilities already found in the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

Additionally, the latest firmware update brings a new toggle for handheld boost mode in quick settings, along with enhancements to the Mii editor, allowing users to add music reminiscent of classic Wii, 3DS, or Wii U Mii creation. Nintendo has also implemented a full system transfer feature between Switch 2 consoles, conveniently timed for the upcoming release of a Zelda-themed Switch 2 next month.
