Nintendo Switch Receives Long-Awaited Major Update After 9 Years

If you’re rocking a Switch, it’s time to charge it up and connect to the internet. The latest update for the portable console isn’t just another vague stability improvement; Version 22.5.0 actually addresses a long-standing issue that should have been tackled back in 2017 when the Switch first launched.

The Nintendo eShop has been infamous for its sluggish performance and glitches. Browsing through the storefront often felt like the system was struggling to run a demanding game at max settings. While the lag was brief and the eShop remained functional, it paled in comparison to the near-instant loading times of competitors, often leading to frustration. Even with many players moving on to the Switch 2, new titles continue to drop for the original Switch, making it baffling that this issue lingered for nearly nine years.

But after years of feedback, Nintendo has finally made a change. The eShop is now much more user-friendly. Interestingly, the patch notes don’t quite capture the significance of this update. Nintendo simply mentions a redesign of the eShop layout and improved color coordination, stating, “The Nintendo eShop color will now reflect the theme color if your theme in System Settings is set to Basic Dark.”

Once you dive into the eShop, you’ll notice a significant improvement in smoothness. A user named Daniel Vuckovic shared a quick video showcasing the changes.

Now, you can easily purchase upcoming titles like Final Fantasy Resonance or Rhythm Heaven Groove without the hassle of navigating a clunky menu!

There are still plenty of reasons to dust off the original Nintendo Switch.
