Nintendo unveils new Switch 2 bundles just before price increase.
Starting in September, Nintendo will increase the price of the Switch 2 console by $50, bringing it to $499.99. To soften the blow for gamers, the company has unveiled new bundles that provide some of the best value for the Switch 2.
Today, Nintendo announced that bundles for Mario Kart World and the upcoming Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will be available in the coming months. The Mario Kart World bundle will retail for $549.99 and includes the console, a digital copy of the game, and a 90-day individual membership for Nintendo Switch Online. This bundle is set to launch in late September, offering customers a savings of about $38. Mario Kart World has established itself as one of the standout exclusives for the Switch 2, even if it hasn’t garnered much Game of the Year attention.
The Nintendo Switch Sports Resort bundle will debut alongside the game on October 22. Priced at $529.99, it will also come with the console, a digital copy of the game, and a 90-day individual membership for Nintendo Switch Online, providing a savings of $28. The lower price point is likely due to the retail cost of Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, which will be a new release at the time of the bundle’s launch. This sequel to 2022’s Switch Sports will feature 12 games, with five returning favorites: tennis, volleyball, basketball, bowling, and golf, along with new additions like table tennis, archery, skateboarding, and thumb wrestling.
Nintendo isn’t alone in raising hardware prices; both PlayStation and Xbox have announced multiple rounds of price increases for their consoles. This trend is largely attributed to a RAM and storage shortage in consumer electronics caused by generative AI. Typically, consoles would see price reductions at this stage in their lifecycle, but the opposite has happened, leading to a decline in console sales across the industry.
The price increase for the Switch 2 hardware will take effect on September 1.
