Nintendo unveils Switch 2 hardware alongside Ocarina of Time remake.

After a month filled with hardware leaks, Nintendo has officially revealed the Switch 2 console, celebrating both the 40th anniversary of Zelda and the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This new hardware is set to launch on October 29, just a week before the Ocarina of Time remake hits the shelves.

The console and its controller sport a striking black, gold, and green color scheme that pays homage to Link, the franchise’s hero, and his Triforce of Courage. Both the console and controller feature a design with triangle-shaped decals surrounding the iconic Triforce symbol and the Hylian Crest. While they are sold separately, those who buy the console will also receive a set of themed Joy-Con 2 controllers. Additionally, a special carrying case will be available to keep your console in pristine condition.

This release comes on the heels of Nintendo’s decision to increase the price of the Switch 2 to $499.99, following earlier price hikes for the Nintendo Switch and its Lite and OLED versions in 2025. These adjustments are attributed to an AI-driven component shortage affecting the entire gaming industry. While some fans are unhappy about paying more for hardware that doesn’t match the power of competing consoles, the introduction of special editions like this one may help ease the transition. Nintendo has also started alerting potential customers in retail stores about the upcoming price increase.

The Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2 is expected to launch in late 2026. So far, only a brief teaser showcasing the remake’s Pixar-like graphical upgrade has been revealed, leaving many details about the new version under wraps.

In addition, filming for The Legend of Zelda film wrapped up in spring 2026, featuring Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. This movie, a collaboration between Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Sony veteran Avi Arad, is rumored to include Sam Neill’s final performance, though his specific role remains undisclosed.
