Nintendo’s President Addresses Possibility of GTA 6 on Switch
The countdown to the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, arguably the most eagerly awaited game in years, is down to just over a month. Gamers are gearing up to dive into Rockstar’s expansive open-world experience on November 19—provided they have a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. As is customary for the studio, PC players will have to wait longer, and the prospects for Nintendo Switch 2 owners seem uncertain. While some had hoped the new console would be robust enough to handle a Grand Theft Auto 6 release, that may not materialize anytime soon.
Devon Pritchard, head of Nintendo of America, recently shared insights about the Switch 2’s capabilities, expressing optimism about its enhanced graphical performance. She mentioned that this could pave the way for more third-party AAA titles, showcasing that the console is not solely aimed at kids and families, but can also deliver a variety of gaming experiences.
One notable title making its way to the console is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, set to launch later this year, marking the franchise’s return to Nintendo platforms after more than a decade. However, Pritchard tempered expectations for Grand Theft Auto 6, stating, “That’s going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.”
This year also celebrates the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise, with Nintendo planning significant festivities. A live-action movie is slated for release on April 30, 2027, and a remake of Ocarina of Time is on the way later this year. Additionally, a special Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Direct revealed plans for a limited concert series.
Pritchard expressed hope that these various releases and events will attract both new players and long-time fans. Whatever Nintendo has in store for Zelda and its other beloved franchises, she emphasized that “anything we’re going to do is going to be deliberate and thoughtful.”
With November 19 approaching quickly, excitement is building.
