No Man’s Sky Celebrates 10 Years with a Major Space Overhaul Update
No Man’s Sky is on the verge of becoming a true all-in-one gaming experience.
This year alone, Hello Games has introduced a gravity gun that lets players extract debris from wreckage and toss it around, rolled out a Pokémon-inspired monster-raising and battling system, and maintained a steady flow of updates that have significantly evolved the game since its launch a decade ago. Now, the studio is taking a monumental leap forward by revamping the very fabric of space.
The upcoming Cosmos update, set to launch Wednesday in celebration of No Man’s Sky’s 10th anniversary, is one of the most substantial updates the game has seen. Unlike many previous updates, this one zeroes in on an aspect of No Man’s Sky that has seen little change since the game’s debut: the vast expanse of space between planets.
Cosmos introduces a new star map filled with intriguing points of interest, massive derelict ships ripe for salvage, new space outposts, biological wrecks, and asteroid belts brimming with valuable resources. Some asteroids are even large enough for players to land on and establish bases.
Additionally, players can now construct orbital bases anywhere in space. These floating structures can be anything from restaurants to military outposts, allowing players to unleash their creativity while gazing down at the planets below and watching the universe unfold.
For the first time, No Man’s Sky also allows players to own their own space stations. These stations can be built, customized, and decorated inside and out, serving as personal hubs or social spots for friends. Players can form alliances and collaborate to create networks of stations while competing on new leaderboards.
