No Man’s Sky Launches on iOS with Stunning Visuals
No Man’s Sky, the once-controversial space exploration game from 2016 that has since earned its place in gaming history, is making its way to mobile devices! Hello Games has dedicated the past three years to optimizing the game for iPhone and iPad, ensuring that no content is lost in the process. If the trailer footage is anything to go by, it looks absolutely incredible.
This isn’t just a stripped-down version of No Man’s Sky; it’s the complete experience! It includes everything from the recent massive Cosmos update, and it’s a real shame that there’s no Android version in sight.
Sean Murray from Hello Games shared that the journey to mobile began shortly after they announced the game for Mac. One team member boldly claimed, “I reckon I could get this running on an iPhone,” which Murray initially thought was a “seemingly impossible technical challenge.” However, the team was determined to prove otherwise.
Hello Games emphasizes that this is not a “Lite” version of No Man’s Sky; it’s the full game, complete with all the major updates from recent years. While the physics engine remains intact, it won’t be exactly the same as on PC and modern consoles. Murray noted, “Similar to our Switch launch, there are some limitations.” For instance, planetary settlements are available only on iPhone 15 Pro and newer models, and multiplayer functionality is not included. However, all iOS devices from the iPhone 11 and 3rd gen iPad Air can run the game, just without the settlements.
The user interface and controls have been revamped for touch screens, but players can also use a controller or even a mouse and keyboard. Remarkably, the game has been compressed to under 4GB, and Hello Games assures players that it won’t drain your battery quickly, allowing for long, enjoyable play sessions. Can this really be happening?
The iOS version of No Man’s Sky is set to launch on October 28, adopting a “free to try” model, though the price for the full game (which will be complete with no in-app purchases) has yet to be announced.
While an Android version seems unlikely, I can’t help but dream about how amazing this would look on my Pixel Tablet.
