No Xbox Wrapped This Year: Reasons Behind Its Absence
As 2025 draws to a close, many major gaming companies are inviting their subscribers to reflect on the past year, much like Spotify Wrapped. Sony kicked things off with its PlayStation Wrap-Up, Steam is rolling out its annual summary, and Nintendo has announced its Switch Year in Review for early next year. However, Microsoft’s Xbox seems to be missing from the lineup. While it doesn’t produce an annual wrap-up, it feels unusual for the brand to skip 2025, especially given the year’s notable game releases and the introduction of an Xbox-branded handheld gaming PC in collaboration with Asus.
According to reports, Microsoft is focusing its marketing efforts on celebrating several significant anniversaries in 2026. The Xbox brand will mark its 25th anniversary, Blizzard will celebrate 35 years, and Bethesda will hit the 40-year mark. With these major milestones occurring close together, it’s likely that Microsoft is prioritizing them, which could explain the absence of an Xbox Wrapped this year. Additionally, BlizzCon is set to return in September, and Blizzard has hinted at having its “biggest year yet” in 2026.
Beyond Microsoft, other gaming franchises are gearing up for their own celebrations. Next year marks the 30th anniversary of Pokémon, Sonic the Hedgehog turns 35, and both The Legend of Zelda and Castlevania will celebrate their 40th anniversaries in 2026. We’ve reached out to Xbox to inquire about any potential year-in-review wrap-up plans and will provide updates as soon as we receive a response.
