Nvidia’s new GPU driver introduces enhanced performance for PC gaming.

Nvidia has just launched a new GPU driver (621.01) that introduces Microsoft’s Advanced Shader Delivery technology, designed to enhance game launch speeds. This innovation also eliminates mid-game “just-in-time” shader compilation, which helps reduce stuttering and CPU spikes.

Advanced Shader Delivery operates by shifting shader compilation for various hardware setups to the cloud. According to Nvidia’s Andrew Burnes, “Using DirectX 12, Windows 11, and the Microsoft Agility SDK, developers capture shaders into a State Object Database (SODB), allowing Microsoft’s cloud network to precompile shaders for hundreds of thousands of hardware and driver combinations.”

Currently, Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 support this technology, provided you download the games through the Xbox PC app. Burnes notes, “This system is storefront-agnostic, meaning you benefit even when playing games purchased on Steam, as long as the Xbox PC app is installed on your PC.”

With Advanced Shader Delivery, you can bypass the frustrating shader compilation screen in Call of Duty, leading to improved performance in supported titles. “With a near-100 percent cache hit rate, it eliminates mid-game ‘just-in-time’ shader compilation, wiping out CPU spikes and frame stutters in titles like Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.”

You can grab Nvidia’s latest 621.01 update, and Advanced Shader Delivery is also compatible with AMD GPUs running Adrenalin 26.6.1 or higher, as well as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 series with driver version 2026.08.3 or higher.
