Nvidia’s Shield TV Pro Sees a $100 Price Increase
Nvidia’s Shield TV streaming boxes have fallen victim to the ongoing memory shortage, which has driven up prices across various tech products, from digital cameras to gaming consoles. When the Shield TV Pro debuted nearly seven years ago, it featured an upgraded Tegra X1+ processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage, retailing for $199.99. However, starting October 2nd, Nvidia raised the price by $100 to $299.99 due to rising component costs.
In 2019, alongside the Pro model, Nvidia introduced a more affordable entry-level Shield TV with the same processor but only 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, priced at $149.99. Unfortunately, this option is no longer available for those seeking a budget-friendly alternative to the Shield TV Pro, as Nvidia has ceased production of the standard model and will now focus solely on the Pro version.
The surge in demand for Nvidia’s other products, including GPUs and AI chips, has significantly contributed to the rising costs of components and devices in recent years. While this price hike may deter some potential buyers from the Shield TV Pro, especially with competing streaming devices like the $149 Google TV Streamer available at lower prices, it won’t diminish Nvidia’s standing as a leader in the AI sector.
