Oblivion Remastered: Just 50% of Players Hit the 15-Hour Mark
Oblivion Remastered, the revamped edition of The Elder Scrolls IV, made a surprise debut last year, with whispers of its release surfacing just a day before it hit the shelves. Despite its impressive sales of 1.1 million copies on PS5, industry analyst Rhys Elliot from Alinea Analytics noted that only about half of those players ventured beyond the 15-hour mark.
Elliot shared on LinkedIn, “Oblivion Remastered has sold 1.1M copies on PS5, showcasing the enduring appeal of Bethesda’s classic titles on PlayStation. It launched across all platforms at the same time. However, around half of the players on PS5 engaged for less than 15 hours, indicating that many satisfied their nostalgia before diving deeper.”
As highlighted by various sources, this trend aligns with global achievement data on Steam. Only 55.9% of players have managed to close an Oblivion Gate, which is the first significant achievement linked to the main quest after completing the tutorial.
While Oblivion Remastered offers a vast world filled with exploration and side quests, the statistics suggest that many players relished their nostalgic experience but didn’t commit to a full playthrough. This is further emphasized by the fact that only 7.5% of Steam players completed the main quest. A contributing factor could be the absence of mod support, which is a staple in Bethesda’s other major titles like Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Starfield.
Recently, there have been murmurs about potential remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, possibly timed with the second season of a related show on a streaming platform. If these rumors hold true, it will be intriguing to see if players engage more deeply or follow a similar pattern of early drop-off.
