It’s been nearly a year since Bethesda Game Studios launched the highly anticipated remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, yet creative players continue to find fresh ways to enhance the RPG experience—like adding… jobs?
Let’s be real, nobody really enjoys work (editor’s note: ouch)—but the Hero of Kvatch is no ordinary character. If you’re low on Septims in Oblivion Remastered and wish your hero could earn a living, your wish has been granted. A new mod on Nexus Mods allows you to put the Champion of Cyrodiil to work between closing portals and embarking on quests, and I’m honestly loving this concept. Who needs a 9-5 when you can be a guard?
As detailed in the Jobs of Oblivion mod’s description, you can grab a job contract (available from over 130 clients!) at an inn, equip yourself with new work-related gear, and set off to take on various roles. You could become a harvester, jeweler, painter, builder, hunter, or even a guard—someone should definitely inform the player who has spent countless hours trying to intimidate Palace Guards for their armor.
Your pay varies based on the job type and client. For instance, jewelers earn more due to the rarity of their materials, while painters earn less since their supplies are easier to find. You’ll need to fully complete a job to finish it, but you can take breaks—gotta love those workers’ rights, right? Though I’m not sure how much of that exists in Tamriel…
But I digress! The key takeaway is that this mod lets you work, and even more jobs are in the pipeline. Players are enjoying Jobs of Oblivion, with one noting it “adds so much immersion to the game.” I’m sold, honestly—why wouldn’t I want to grind out some work in-game right after I… grind out some work in real life? Time to join the 3,000+ players who feel the same and download the mod.
Imagine a Skyrim fan juggling a 9-5 job within the RPG, battling bandits while tackling emails and facing dragons during PowerPoints: “Work from home became work from Whiterun.”
