Olympic Skier Admits to Cheating on Girlfriend During Live Interview After Bronze Medal Win
Norwegian Olympic athlete Sturla Holm Lægreid found himself in an unexpected emotional moment after clinching a bronze medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Instead of celebrating, he broke down during a live interview, revealing that he had cheated on his girlfriend just three months prior.
On February 10, shortly after securing his medal in the men’s 20km biathlon, Sturla was asked about his achievement. In a surprising turn, he opened up about his recent infidelity, expressing his regret over losing his girlfriend and the misery that followed.
“There is someone I wanted to share this with who might not be watching today,” Sturla said during the post-event interview. “Six months ago, I met the love of my life, the most beautiful and kindest person in the world. Three months ago, I made the biggest mistake of my life and was unfaithful.” He mentioned that he had confessed to cheating just a week earlier, adding, “This has been the worst week of my life.”
“I want to be a good role model, but I just have to admit when I make mistakes. It hurts to admit when you do something you can’t stand for and hurt someone you love so much. But that’s life now.”
So, why did Sturla choose to confess his infidelity at the Winter Olympics right after winning a medal? In a follow-up interview, he explained that it was his way of trying to win her back.
“I have nothing to lose. I had a chance at true love, and I screwed up so badly. It’s not necessarily forgivable. But if this gives me a tiny chance to tell her how much I love her, I’d rather commit social suicide on live TV just to get that little chance,” he stated.
When the reporter pointed out that he had just made their private situation public, Sturla seemed to realize the gravity of his choice, responding, “Maybe I messed up my chance now to get her back.”
