While the One Piece series is celebrated for its epic adventures, it also serves up some delicious meals, especially when Luffy devours them with such enthusiasm. One Piece Grand Gourmet is a newly announced management sim from Kairosoft that focuses on the culinary delights of the series. It’s set to launch on October 23 for Switch and Switch 2.
The trailer showcases Sanji, the Straw Hat Pirates’ chef, leading the kitchen as a host of familiar faces from the series make an appearance. Over 400 characters will join the fun in their charming pixelated forms, including the ever-popular Buggy the Clown. Players will send the Straw Hat crew on quests for better ingredients and utilize Devil Fruit abilities to enhance their dishes. This concept brilliantly merges Sanji’s culinary passion with engaging fan service, making it a fantastic addition to the One Piece gaming universe.
Even those who aren’t die-hard One Piece fans might find the vibrant characters and Kairosoft’s polished gameplay appealing. The adorable chibi versions of the crew featured in the food sets are simply irresistible (seriously, a plushie of chibi Chopper needs to happen ASAP).
What’s particularly exciting about this announcement is the studio behind the game. Kairosoft is a renowned Japanese developer known for titles like Game Dev Story, a well-crafted management sim that first hit mobile devices globally in 2010 (originally released in Japan in 1997). The game became a sensation on the iPhone App Store, prompting the studio to translate many of its other management games, such as Mega Mall Story and Dungeon Village, into English. Almost all of Kairosoft’s extensive back catalog is now available to a wider audience.
Given the immense popularity of One Piece, this collaboration feels like a match made in heaven. The franchise has recently broadened its reach with a new season of the live-action series, and an exciting new anime adaptation is on the horizon. We’ll see how this cooking-themed spin-off performs when it enters a competitive release schedule later this year.
