OpenAI Hints at Upcoming Hardware for Codex

OpenAI is set to unveil a new device linked to its AI-driven coding tool, Codex, on July 15th. A recent video shared on X features a square-shaped gadget equipped with multiple buttons, accompanied by the message, “Your favorite Codex shortcuts are getting an upgrade.”

This device isn’t the enigmatic AI project being developed with former Apple designer Jony Ive. Instead, it’s a collaboration with Work Louder, a brand known for its range of mechanical keyboards and macro pads that feature customizable keys, dials, and switches.

The design hinted at in the teaser resembles Work Louder’s Creator Micro 2, a macro pad boasting 13 mechanical switches, a joystick, and a touch sensor. Users can program shortcuts and custom actions for various applications, such as Photoshop. Figma has also teamed up with Work Louder to introduce a macro pad with preset shortcuts.

While neither OpenAI nor Work Louder has revealed further specifics about their partnership, the launch is just two weeks away, so we won’t have to wait long for more information.
