Oppo Unveils Another Top-Notch Foldable Phone

There are several reasons why some gamers hesitate to invest in a foldable phone. Concerns about price, battery life, and camera quality often stem from manufacturers trying to balance specs with the added costs of folding technology. Other issues, like durability and size, have seen significant improvements over time. However, the crease in foldable screens has always felt like a fundamental flaw that would persist regardless of advancements. Oppo, however, is challenging that notion.

Oppo asserts that the Find N6 is the first foldable phone to feature a “zero-feel” crease, one so subtle that it’s nearly imperceptible. While there may be a touch of marketing flair in that claim, Oppo is onto something. The crease isn’t completely eliminated, but it’s unlikely to deter anyone from considering the Find N6.

But the crease isn’t the only highlight. The Find N6 also boasts smart multitasking capabilities, a sleek design, stylus support, and impressive battery life. While the camera performance may not quite match that of Oppo’s flagship Find X9 series, it still ranks among the best in the foldable category. Overall, this makes the Find N6 the top foldable phone available right now—though it’s limited to select markets, including China, a few Asian countries, Australia, and New Zealand, with no plans for a US or European release. In Australia, it retails for $3,299 AUD, roughly $2,300 USD.

Let’s dive into the crease. A few weeks back, I discussed how Oppo achieved its nearly crease-free display. In essence, they utilize 3D liquid printing to fill the gaps in the hinge, resulting in a smoother surface for the foldable screen.

The outcome is impressive. You can see the crease, but only when you tilt the phone just right to catch the light; you can feel it, but only if you actively try to. Most of the time, it’s as if it’s not even there. When comparing the Find N6 to Honor’s Magic V6, the crease is noticeably shallower and less pronounced; against Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold, the difference is stark.

The real question is how much this matters. The crease has been a sticking point for many potential foldable buyers, often the first thing they notice when trying out a device. However, creases have improved significantly over the years—it’s been a while since one bothered me during a review, and I usually forget about it within an hour of use. Oppo has effectively minimized that adjustment period, which could encourage more gamers to consider foldables. While an Apple foldable would undoubtedly make a bigger splash, Android manufacturers are making strides.

Oppo has also nailed the foldable software experience, continually improving it. The company has been recognized for its excellent multitasking features in previous Find N models, and the Find N6 enhances this with the ability to open up to four floating windows that can be resized and moved around freely, all while remaining active. With a couple of taps, you can switch to a split-screen view, allowing apps to share the screen equally, and then revert back to floating mode, with the phone remembering the position of each window. This level of flexibility is unmatched in the foldable market.

A new stylus, the AI Pen, has been designed specifically for the Find N6, compatible with both the inner and outer screens. It offers standard note-taking and doodling features, along with a unique mode that lets you draw temporary bright red doodles that vanish after a few seconds. The stylus comes bundled with a case that includes a charging slot, priced at $199 AUD (about $140).

In terms of design, the Find N6 is reminiscent of the Find N5, which was my favorite foldable last year. It measures 8.93mm thick and weighs 225g, making it slightly thicker than the Honor Magic V6 but comparable to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and as thin as many flagship models. This is about as slim as foldables are likely to get for now.

Powering the device is a seven-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The slight reduction in cores hasn’t affected performance; it handled a 60fps session of Diablo Immortal without breaking a sweat, though more demanding games might push its limits. It comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, which is more than sufficient.

The 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery is another significant upgrade from last year’s model. I often go to bed with around 50% charge left, even on days with heavy use of the 8.12-inch internal display. However, I wouldn’t rely on it to last through two full days without a power bank. Charging is rapid, reaching up to 80W with Oppo’s SuperVooc charger, though it’s limited to 55W with universal PPS chargers. Wireless charging is available at 50W, assuming you use an Oppo charging pad; otherwise, Qi speeds will be slower, and there’s no support for Qi2 magnetic charging.

On the durability front, the Find N6 has an IP56 rating, which indicates good water resistance but less dust protection compared to the latest offerings from Google and Honor. This is an improvement over the Find N5, which had no dust protection at all. The triple rear camera setup features a 200-megapixel main lens, along with 50-megapixel ultrawide and 3x telephoto lenses. While it performs well compared to other foldable phones, it doesn’t quite match the photography capabilities of Oppo’s slab flagships like the Find X9 series. This difference is particularly noticeable in low-light conditions, where it struggles with bright light sources. For a foldable, the camera system is excellent, but a regular phone at half the price would likely outperform it in photography.

If you’re set on a foldable phone and can get your hands on the Find N6, it’s my top recommendation right now. The display is stunning, the battery life is solid, and the multitasking features are unparalleled. If Apple’s rumored iPhone Fold launches this September as anticipated, it will have a tough time surpassing this device.
