Over 700 Games Launched on Steam Last Week, Breaking Records
Steam is overflowing with games, and the pace of new releases is staggering. Recent data reveals that over 700 games hit the platform in just one week, marking a new record that’s likely to be surpassed soon.
On August 31, ICO Partners CEO Thomas Bidaux, who has been closely monitoring Steam’s release trends, shared some eye-opening statistics. From August 24 to 30, a total of 720 new games were launched on Steam, averaging about 102 releases per day or roughly four every hour. To put this in perspective, in 2013, the entire year saw only 436 games released on the platform.
However, a closer look at the numbers paints a less rosy picture. Nearly 75% of these new titles have received 10 reviews or fewer. Specifically, 530 games have between zero and nine player reviews, while only 10 managed to gather more than 1,000 reviews. This suggests that many of the 720 games released last week may not have been played beyond a handful of friends and family of the developers. So, while Steam’s library is rapidly expanding, most of these new titles are not seeing significant purchases or playtime.
Earlier in August, Bidaux noted that 670 games had launched in a single week, a record that has now been eclipsed. He had anticipated that a week with over 700 releases would occur, and that prediction came true, with the new record of 720 games arriving “a month earlier than expected.”
At this trajectory, it seems inevitable that we’ll soon witness a week where 800 games are released on Steam.
In 2024, data indicated that over 19,000 games were released on the platform, with around 80% of those titles remaining largely unplayed. The trend shows no signs of slowing down in 2026, with over 12,000 games already launched in the first half of the year, reflecting a 19% increase compared to 2025. Last year, approximately 21,000 games made their debut on Steam.
