Overwatch Introduces a New Hero with Vampire-Like Abilities

During the opening ceremonies of Blizzcon, Blizzard introduced the latest hero for Overwatch, a support character named Doctrine, inspired by vampire lore.

The Overwatch segment featured an animated cinematic that kicked off Act 3 of the ongoing storyline, showcasing Doomfist, Sombra, Widowmaker, and Reaper on a mission to rescue Doctrine from captivity. As the cinematic unfolds, Doctrine reveals his shadowy, bat-like abilities, transforming from a corpse-like figure into a sleek, futuristic Victorian-style character.

Doctrine wields a scepter that not only heals allies but also deploys mechanical bat drones for offensive maneuvers. His standout ability, Infuse, allows him to enhance his next action, such as converting a dash into flight.

In addition to Doctrine’s reveal, a new map was announced: Watch Camp: Grimvotn, an escort map set in an Icelandic prison camp.

We also got a glimpse of upcoming changes in Overwatch. Roadhog is set for a significant rework to make him a more appealing tank option, while Sombra will be revamped as a support character. Both will be playable on the Blizzcon show floor, alongside the new map, while Doctrine will be available for a limited-time trial for players at home. Additionally, the Dokiwatch cosmetics are making a return to the game.

All these updates are slated for release in October, and there’s still one more hero yet to be unveiled this year.
