Overwatch Set to Introduce 5 New Heroes Soon, with 10 Arriving in 2026

Overwatch is gearing up for its most exciting year yet, with a whopping 10 new heroes set to join the fray in 2026. The first five will drop all at once on February 10, coinciding with the launch of season 1, marking a significant content update that surpasses the debut of Overwatch 2 back in 2022. Notably, the game will now simply be called Overwatch, as the developers are dropping the “2” from the title in anticipation of the next decade of this hero-centric PvP shooter.

The new roster includes a full team: one tank (Domina), two damage dealers (Anran and Emre), and two support heroes (Jetpack Cat and Mizuki). Each of these characters has ties to existing heroes in the Overwatch universe. For instance, Anran Ye is the sister of Wuyang, while Emre Sarioglu has a history with Ana and Soldier: 76, both of whom have been hinted at in comics and animated shorts.

Releasing multiple heroes at once is a departure from the norm for the Overwatch team. While Blizzard previously launched three heroes—Junker Queen, Kiriko, and Sojourn—together with Overwatch 2, the usual pattern has been to introduce one hero every nine weeks. However, for the 10th anniversary, game director Aaron Keller expressed a desire to make a significant impact. Alongside the five heroes debuting on February 10, players can look forward to one new hero each season for the next five seasons, bringing the total to 55 playable heroes by the end of 2026, up from the original 21 at launch in 2016.

Keller shared insights during a press conference at Blizzard’s headquarters, revealing that the planning for 2026’s major hero releases began over a year ago. “The strategy was to put something out there that would feel like an expansion,” he explained. “This is a hero shooter, and the best way to drive excitement for our players is to introduce a bunch of new heroes. It’s what keeps players engaged—learning about these heroes, mastering them, and enjoying the gameplay.”

He emphasized that the team didn’t rush the development of these five heroes just to meet the season 1 deadline. “The Overwatch team has become more efficient at creating new heroes, but we still dedicated the same level of time, attention, detail, polish, playtesting, and iteration to each hero as we do for any character we introduce.”

Each of the five new heroes aligns with either Overwatch or its rival, Talon, and their ongoing conflict will unfold through a year-long narrative featuring in-game events, cinematics, hero trailers, short stories, comics, and map updates.

Players will get their first chance to experience the new heroes this week, with a playtest for Anran running in-game from February 5-10. Here’s a closer look at the five new heroes debuting in season 1.

**Official description:** “As Vishkar Corporation’s most prized negotiator, Domina uses her masterful command of hard-light to take control of every situation.”

Tank players will appreciate Domina, who can deploy a hard-light barrier to shield her team while wielding a beam weapon capable of delivering lethal headshots. Her Barrier Array stands out from similar shields used by Sigma, Reinhardt, or Orisa, as each segment must be destroyed individually, allowing for dynamic defensive strategies. During my hands-on experience with the new heroes, Domina truly shone, providing robust defense and wreaking havoc on opponents with her beam weapon.

**Official description:** “The star graduate of Wuxing University’s Fire College, Anran is always burning to push her limits.”

Anran is a high-mobility assassin who can ignite enemies and amplify those already on fire. She may quickly become a favorite for Genji mains, but she also stands out with two ultimates: one that inflicts massive damage and burns foes, and another that revives her upon death, re-entering the battlefield with a fiery explosion.

**Official description:** “Emre disappeared after a lauded tenure on the Overwatch strike team. He has resurfaced years later, his body and mind manipulated by something unknown.”

Emre serves as the Soldier: 76 of the new squad, an accessible hero equipped with a burst-fire pistol that poses a significant threat to airborne enemies like Pharah, Echo, Mercy, and Juno.

**Official description:** “A fearless feline pilot equipped with Brigitte’s latest jet-propulsion invention, Jetpack Cat brings adorable aerial support to the battlefield.”

Yes, Jetpack Cat is finally here. The cat named Fika is a stray taken in by Brigitte, and she might just be as clever as the other animals in the Overwatch roster. Always airborne, Jetpack Cat excels when close to her teammates. She also has a unique ability that allows her to pick up and carry a teammate, potentially setting up some exciting plays with Cassidy’s Dead Eye or Reinhardt’s Earthshatter. Her ultimate ability lets her grab opponents, dropping them in unfavorable positions or even off the map.

**Official description:** “Born under a shadow of misfortune, Mizuki will do anything it takes to break free of his curse and decide his own fate.”

As a member of the Hashimoto clan, Mizuki uses his hat like Captain America’s shield, bouncing it off allies to heal multiple teammates in succession. He can also immobilize enemies (similar to Junkrat’s old Steel Trap) and ricochet his Spirit Glaive primary weapon off walls. Mizuki turned out to be the most unexpectedly enjoyable of the five new heroes I tried.

The developers have hinted at five more heroes coming to Overwatch in 2026 throughout seasons 2-6. While details remain scarce, it appears we can expect another tank along with a mix of damage and support heroes, based on artwork released.

The tank silhouette in that art certainly resembles D.Va’s mech design—could we be getting another member of the MEKA Squad? Additionally, at least one of the other heroes seems to be an Omnic, a robotic race that is currently underrepresented in the Overwatch lineup. Other designs suggest a new sniper and a character featuring a remote robotic dragonfly.

Players likely won’t have to wait long to see these new characters revealed, whether through pre-season playtests or in cinematics, comics, and Easter eggs scattered across maps.
