In exciting news, the new Overwatch hero Anran was officially revealed during Blizzard’s recent Overwatch Spotlight livestream, and her voice actor, Fareeha Andersen, couldn’t be more thrilled. A long-time member of the Overwatch community and a streamer, Andersen is excited to bring this fiery character to life, especially after overcoming a voice loss just in time for the role.
Andersen shared her reaction to Anran’s announcement during the February 4 Spotlight stream in a video posted on Twitter on February 11. She expressed her joy, saying, “I called my girlfriend the moment Anran was revealed at OW Spotlight. I love you @lynnunlimited, thank you for supporting me when I was so sick I lost my voice.”
In her call with Lynn, a cosplayer and fellow Twitch streamer, Andersen expressed gratitude for her girlfriend’s support throughout her voice rehabilitation journey. “Thanks for driving me to that callback. Helping me warm up and stuff. I couldn’t have done it without you,” she said. Overwatch fans are equally appreciative of Andersen, who recently supported Blizzard’s decision to redesign Anran, aiming to challenge the unrealistic beauty standards often seen in media.
“Thank you for being the reason I play DPS now lol,” one Overwatch player commented to Andersen.
The new Overwatch actor also addressed the “elephant in the room,” sharing that she had to “mourn” her character’s redesign, adding, “Let’s keep rooting for the version of her that could be.”
