Overwatch’s April Fools’ Event Takes Balance to New Heights of Hilarity

Every year, Overwatch celebrates April Fools’ Day with a wild event that introduces a zany new mode, chaotic balance tweaks, and altered voice lines, complete with googly eyes on every hero. This year is no different, as Blizzard has managed to squeeze in this fun event while also revamping the hero shooter with fresh updates, new heroes, and lore expansions.

The “Underwatch” event kicks off today, showcasing some intriguing balance changes highlighted in the announcement trailer. Mei is getting a height boost and a potential tank-like buff, while D.Va’s projectiles are transforming into large, slow-moving homing missiles. Domina’s shield will now feature multiple holes, giving the impression of a tech malfunction, and Cassidy’s finger-gun greeting is being upgraded to an actual firearm. Additionally, Vendetta is set to receive a third-person lock-on view reminiscent of character action games, which adds an exciting twist.

This limited-time mode will run from April 1 to 13. Full patch notes will be added once they go live, likely after the event launches at 2 p.m. Eastern. Expect your Play of the Game highlights to feature those googly eyes on your hero, no matter which mode you’re playing.

In addition to the April Fools’ festivities, Blizzard is teasing the next hero set to join the roster in two weeks with the upcoming season. So far, we’ve only seen an illustration, but fans are speculating that she may be a character from one of the game’s novels.
