Overwatch’s Upcoming Hero Surprises Fans with Unexpected Reveal

Overwatch has introduced its 51st hero, and despite plenty of fan theories leading up to the reveal, it’s not Frankie, the drone-wielding member of the Deadlock Gang from the novels. Instead, we’re getting a fresh character named Sierra, who is positioned as an adversary to the faction.

While we haven’t seen Sierra in action within the game yet, Blizzard has dropped an animated trailer showcasing her in a confrontation with Emre. In this encounter, the cyborg gains the upper hand and escapes with Freja, who warns Sierra to reconsider her plans against Talon and the Deadlock Gang, as they are aiding Vendetta in her global ambitions. Although we don’t have a complete look at her abilities in Overwatch, the trailer gives us a glimpse of her combat style. She appears nimble, armed with a pulse rifle, and utilizes a homing device that latches onto enemies, tracking their movements and guiding projectiles to their location. At one point, she connects with her drone, which then maneuvers her around the battlefield, suggesting she’ll have impressive mobility options.

All will be revealed when Sierra officially joins the roster at the start of season 2 on April 14. It will be interesting to see how she integrates into Overwatch’s overarching narrative, especially since Blizzard has indicated that each new hero introduced over the next year will contribute to the Talon-focused storyline that began last season with Doomfist’s defeat. While she clearly has a grudge against the Deadlock Gang, that’s about all we know for now. Sierra will take center stage in season 2, alongside Anran, who is also set to receive her long-awaited redesign.
