“Palworld Developer Addresses Terraforming Requests for Potential Sequel: Major Changes Would Require Extensive Development and Data Reset”
For fans of Palworld hoping for terraforming features in the survival game, it seems like those dreams might be dashed. John ‘Bucky’ Buckley, the game’s designer and Pocketpair’s publishing manager, has shared insights on the challenges of implementing such a feature.
In a discussion on the Palworld Discord, a player proposed the idea of smoothing out terrain to create perfect base locations, which garnered some support from the community. However, Bucky quickly dismissed the notion, stating, “The world in Palworld isn’t voxel-based, so this sort of thing isn’t possible without totally reworking the entire terrain engine. It’s worth considering if we ever do any sort of spin-off or sequel though!”
Some players have also suggested the possibility of creating new worlds with advanced topography options, aiming to avoid altering the existing landscape. Unfortunately, Bucky shot this idea down as well, explaining, “I’m not sure you realize how much work that would be haha. Reworking the terrain system is… a year+ of development and it would require all save files to be wiped.”
He acknowledged the creativity behind the suggestions, saying, “Again, nice idea but it’s not on the cards for Palworld,” while hinting that it could be a consideration for a potential Palworld 2. Given the current success of Palworld, a sequel might not be on the horizon just yet, but it could be something to explore in the future, perhaps in a project like Palfarm.
