Paramount Unveils Official Movie Adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077

Johnny Silverhand is making his way to the big screen. A live-action adaptation of the sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 is in the works, with a prominent producer from the Transformers franchise at the helm. This marks another entry in the growing list of video game adaptations, as the studio is also set to bring Street Fighter and Call of Duty to life.

Reports indicate that the producer is collaborating with the game’s developers to bring this project to fruition. There’s also a new Transformers film in development with notable filmmakers involved.

Michał Nowakowski, co-CEO of the game’s developer, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with the studio, highlighting their shared vision for the Cyberpunk franchise and hinting at more details to come.

While specifics about the film’s writer, director, and cast remain under wraps, many fans are already speculating about who could portray Johnny Silverhand in live action—Keanu Reeves is a popular choice!

The narrative of Cyberpunk 2077 follows the mercenary V, who takes on a mission to steal a unique implant believed to grant immortality. V’s journey intertwines with that of Johnny Silverhand, whose consciousness resides in a cybernetic biochip, forcing them to collaborate to ensure V’s survival. The game is set in the vibrant yet dystopian Night City, dominated by the powerful Arasaka Corporation.

Originally released in 2020 after a lengthy development period, Cyberpunk 2077 faced significant challenges at launch. However, the developers have since made substantial improvements, turning it into a fan favorite and realizing the franchise’s original cyberpunk vision. The game has sold over 40 million copies, and an expansion titled Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty was released in 2025.

Additionally, the world of Cyberpunk 2077 has been adapted into an animated series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which premiered on a streaming platform in 2022. A sequel series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, is set to debut on October 20.

A sequel to the game was announced in 2022 under the working title Project Orion. In May 2025, it was revealed that the sequel, now titled Cyberpunk 2, has entered pre-production, although a release date has yet to be confirmed.

Director Kai Ikarashi has provided insights into the show’s unique redesign.
