Paramount’s Among Us Series Launches Today—No Need for an Emergency Meeting to Tune In!

It’s been a couple of years since we last heard about the animated series based on Among Us, and you might have thought it had vanished into the depths of space. But surprise! All 10 episodes have dropped today, featuring a star-studded voice cast, though they lack depth and hearty laughs.

The Among Us series is just what you’d expect: it centers on a vibrant crew of little Among Us characters trapped on a spaceship with an alien shapeshifter disguised as one of them, picking them off one by one. Each episode features roughly one murder, with the crew desperately trying to identify the imposter between the chaos, while viewers are left in suspense until the end.

I’ve watched the first five episodes so far. While the game doesn’t rely on strong character personalities, the show does a decent job of giving each color character some basic motivation and traits. Patton Oswalt shines as White, a snobby rich guy who won a contest for a space trip. Yvette Nicole Brown is great as Orange, the overly corporate head of HR, who, along with White and the naive intern Green (voiced by Elijah Wood), delivers a few amusing but shallow jabs at billion-dollar corporations and capitalism. My favorite character is Randall Park as Red, the hilariously incompetent captain whose clumsy attempts to rally the group and appear cool provided most of the laughs for me. I don’t want to spoil too much, but one of these four characters meets an early demise, which seems absurd given their star power.

That said, the show isn’t bad; it’s just okay! There are some solid jokes, especially if you pay attention to the art and animation details. However, it’s also quite predictable: I could tell from the start which characters would make it to the final episodes, and the first half of the series offered no surprises to challenge that guess. If you’re tuning in for a barrage of game references, you’ll likely enjoy it. The comically gruesome deaths, the iconic Emergency Meeting button, the pizza, various rooms, security cameras, and vents are all present. It feels more like watching celebrities play Among Us without you. Honestly, I’d rather gather my friends and play the game together.

In other news, there’s also an announcement for Among Us Story: On Guard, a new story-driven game set in the Among Us universe that will soon be available for wishlisting on Steam. No release date yet, but we can expect more details once the Steam page goes live.

So, if you want to unwind after several hours of gaming news, you can catch all 10 episodes of Among Us on Paramount+, each running about 12-15 minutes.
