Paul Dano responds to Quentin Tarantino’s criticism of his acting: “The world defended me, so I didn’t need to.”

Paul Dano has finally responded to the controversial remarks Quentin Tarantino made about him last month. During an episode of a podcast, Tarantino referred to Dano as “weak sauce” for his role in There Will Be Blood, labeling him “the weakest male actor in SAG.”

In the wake of these comments, many in Hollywood and fans alike took to social media to defend Dano, which he greatly appreciated. “That was really nice,” Dano shared in a recent interview. “I was also incredibly grateful that the world spoke up for me so I didn’t have to.”

His Little Miss Sunshine co-star Toni Collette was particularly vocal, stating, “F*** that guy! He must’ve been high… it was just confusing. Who does that?” This comment came during an interview ahead of a 20th anniversary screening of the 2006 film at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Collette wasn’t alone in her support. The Batman director Matt Reeves also stood up for Dano, who portrayed The Riddler in the DC film, saying, “Paul Dano is an incredible actor, and an incredible person.”

Ben Stiller chimed in with, “Paul Dano is f-ing brilliant,” while Marvel star Simu Liu added, “idk man i think paul dano is an incredible actor.” Maya Rudolph even shared images of Dano on Instagram, showing her support following Tarantino’s comments.

Regardless of Tarantino’s views, Dano’s impressive career speaks volumes. He received a BAFTA nomination for his role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s film and boasts an Independent Spirit Award win, along with two Emmy nominations and three Critics’ Choice Movie Awards nominations.

Looking ahead, Dano is set to star alongside Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson in a new film titled The Chaperones, directed by India Donaldson.
