Peak Design’s Modular Field Bracket Features Integrated Finder Tag
I tend to be a bit of a klutz, especially when it comes to my cameras. I’ve got AirTags attached to nearly every one of them because, yes, I’ve left my gear in Ubers and on planes. For me, these finder tags are a must-have.
However, attaching a finder tag to a camera can be a hassle. Right now, I have them dangling from my camera straps like some retro phone charm, which is not only unsightly but also gets in the way when I’m trying to focus on capturing the perfect shot. Thankfully, Peak Design has introduced a solution with its new Field Bracket system, which just launched on Kickstarter, starting at $150 for early backers.
The Peak Design Field Bracket is a versatile tool that combines an L-bracket, hand grip, and cheese plate all in one. It’s designed for photographers and videographers who need to switch between landscape and portrait orientations on their tripods quickly, or who want to attach a light or microphone when there’s no dedicated mount available. What really catches my eye is the built-in slot for a dedicated Finder Tag.
The Beacon Finder Tag is Peak Design’s own tracker that integrates with Apple Find My and Google Find Hub, making it compatible with both Apple and Android devices. This means you won’t lose access to your camera finder if you switch platforms. It runs on a standard CR2025 battery, which Peak claims can last up to six months. Plus, it’s rated IP67 for water and dust resistance and fits neatly into the base plate of the L-bracket.
The Beacon Finder Tag is just one of the accessories available alongside the Field Bracket. The main product is the L-bracket itself, but once it’s attached to your camera, you can also add accessories like a hand grip, finger grip, and cheese plate. The Field Bracket is compatible with most ARCA-compatible tripods and won’t interfere with Peak Design’s capture clip or camera straps. In fact, it has dedicated slots for attaching your existing Peak Design camera strap, so you won’t have to give up your favorite strap.
The vertical attachment on the L-bracket is called the Field Latch, featuring a new locking system that allows for quick attachment and detachment without any tools. This is also where you can attach the optional cheese plate, which can be adjusted to access ports or run cables from the camera.
You’ll need to select the specific bracket that fits your camera, as each one is molded for a particular body. At launch, the Field Bracket supports the latest models from various camera lines. There’s a compatibility list available, and if your camera isn’t listed, Peak has a feedback page for you to submit your model.
The bracket will retail for $149.95, and if you want to grab all the accessories, the bundle will cost $269.80. However, during the Kickstarter campaign, you can snag the bracket for $125 and the bundle for $199, while supplies last.
